Every saree is one of a kind
Woven fabric is alive with character. Light changes how a colour looks, and the loom leaves its quiet signature in every metre. This page explains what to expect, so that the saree you unbox is exactly the saree you hoped for.
01 Colour & photography
Every product is photographed to show its colour, weave and design as faithfully as possible. Even so, the colour you see on screen can differ slightly from the saree in your hands. This happens because of:
- the lighting in which the photograph was taken, whether natural daylight, studio light or warm indoor light;
- the brightness, contrast and colour settings of your phone, tablet or computer screen;
- the sheen of silk and zari, which reflects light differently from every angle; and
- individual perception of colour, which naturally varies from person to person.
Tip: for the truest view of a colour, look at the product photos on a phone at full brightness with night mode or blue-light filters turned off.
02 The nature of woven fabric
Woven sarees are created thread by thread on the loom. This gives each piece its depth and richness, and also its individuality. You may notice:
These are natural characteristics of woven textiles and are not considered defects. They are the quiet signature of the loom.
03 Zari & metallic work
Unless a product page states otherwise, our sarees use metallic zari with a gold, silver or antique-gold finish, not pure gold or silver. Please keep in mind that:
- the tone and shine of zari can vary slightly between batches and may look brighter or softer than in photographs;
- zari can feel slightly textured to the touch, especially on dense borders and pallus;
- a few short zari threads may show at the edges or on the reverse; trim them gently with scissors and never pull them; and
- like all metallic thread, zari can dull over time with exposure to moisture, perfume or deodorant.
See our zari care tips to keep it shining for years.
04 Prints & surface designs
Most of our sarees are woven, with the design created on the loom itself. Where a saree features printed, embroidered or embellished designs, the following may vary slightly from piece to piece:
- the placement and alignment of prints across the body, border and pallu;
- the density, sharpness and intensity of printed colours; and
- the position of embroidery, sequins or other embellishments.
Such variations are part of the production process and are not defects.
05 Measurements
Sarees are free size. A typical Zariknyaa saree is about 5.5 metres long with an unstitched blouse piece of about 0.8 metres; some designs come as a single length of about 6.3 metres with the blouse piece in the running fabric. The exact details are listed on each product page.
Because fabric is woven, cut and finished in batches, actual lengths and widths may differ by a few centimetres from the stated measurements. This does not affect how the saree drapes.
Services such as fall, pico or blouse stitching are not included unless the product page says so.
06 Styling shown in photos
Photographs are styled to help you imagine the complete look. Unless the product page clearly says they are included, the following are for styling only and are not part of your order:
Drapes, pleats and fall in photographs are achieved by professional styling and may look different depending on how the saree is worn.
07 Dyes & first care
Deep and vibrant shades, such as maroon, wine, royal blue, green and black, may release a little colour during the first cleaning. To protect your saree:
- always dry clean silk, silk blend and zari sarees, especially for the first wash;
- do not soak, machine wash or wring the saree; and
- keep it away from direct sunlight for long periods, which can fade colours.
Colour changes caused by washing, soaking or not following the care instructions are not covered as defects. See the full saree care guide.
08 Natural variation or a real defect?
We inspect every saree before it is packed. If something is genuinely wrong, we will always make it right. Here is how we tell the difference:
Natural variation, not a defect
- Slight colour difference caused by lighting or screen settings
- Small slubs, knots or shade variation in the weave
- Floating threads on the reverse of woven motifs
- Minor shifts in motif, print or border placement
- Short loose threads that can be trimmed
- A difference of a few centimetres in length
A real defect, we will help
- Holes, tears or cut fabric
- Broken zari or large weaving gaps
- Major stains present at delivery
- Colour or design clearly different from what you ordered
- A wrong or missing item
